Environment for Learning

International patent application helps Environment for Learning on the European market.

The vision of Environment for Learning is that the furniture in European schools needs to be aligned with the 21st century standards. In collaboration with Kanved Patent Consulting, the company has filed an international patent application for a unique product, and so far it looks promising for the innovation furniture designer.

- The idea is that we should have very few item numbers on the shelves, which may be reused again and again in different furniture constellations in the classroom with modular construction. A bit like Lego bricks just in a larger format, explains Lars Engeborg, founder and director of Environment for Learning.

Together with Nicolai Kanved, who is the owner of Kanved Patent Consulting, the small entrepreneurial company has filed an international patent application for their unique furniture concept, and right now Lars Engeborg is waiting for feedback from the authorities. So far, however, he is happy and confident, for the preliminary feedback from the authority suggests that the concept is patentable.

- We have received very positive feedback from the patent authority on novelty and inventive step. Often there are objections from the authority in relation to what is already known. Quite extraordinarily, it appears that the patent application easily passes examination, says Lars Engeborg.

Kanved prepared patent application

Lars is happy with Kanved Patent Consulting's work in the process, and it has been important to him that Kanved is so self-driving and skilled in his work that he should not spend his time working on the patent, but has been able to focus on acquiring clients.

- I have chosen Nicolai to represent the company and help with the patent application. That work is in his hands and I have felt safe all the way with him the lead the process. I can concentrate on what I understand, and then Kanved does what they are good at, Lars Engeborg mentions.

- After I informed Nicolai about the product, what we make and how we produce, he was well on his way to getting the patent application off the ramp. After the initial meetings, he has run the process. It has been a very small burden for us as a company.

"I have chosen Nicolai to represent the company and help with the patent application. That work is in his hands and I have felt safe all the way with him to lead the process. I can concentrate on what I understand and then Kanved does that which they are good at. "

Mmarketing benefits

Lars Engeborg sees many possibilities for what the patent can be used for in the future, if it is granted. He considers whether it should be sold, if it will be worth a lot of money, whether he should find partners or a company that can produce for him. But right now, while he is waiting for the final approval, he is using it to promote the product.

- I use it in marketing, but not in a large scale, because I do not have a patent yet. But I write “patent pending” on my website and show potential competitors that I have an application out.

Facts about Environment for Learning

The history of Environment for Learning is relatively new, but it has many threads back in time, where the owners have long worked with innovation, pedagogy and the development of school furniture and learning spaces.

Environment for Learning largely does not sell traditional school furniture because they are on a joint mission. They are working to spread learning furniture that children, teachers, educators and school leaders do not yet know the value of. It requires a particularly innovative approach and flexibility.
